Manage your alice subscription — view usage, upgrade, downgrade, or switch billing periods

Billing & Plans

The Billing section of Settings gives the workspace owner full visibility into the current plan, usage metrics, and subscription management. Only the owner role has access to this page -- admins and members will see a message directing them to contact the owner.

Current Plan Card

At the top of the Billing page, a card displays your active plan:

The card shows:

  • Plan name and icon -- Visual indicator of your current tier
  • Price -- Monthly or annual amount depending on your billing period
  • Renewal date -- When the next charge will be processed
  • Billing period -- Monthly or annual

Pending Cancellation Banner

If you have cancelled your subscription but it has not yet expired, a banner appears at the top of the Billing page:

Your Pro plan is cancelled and will end on March 15, 2026. You retain full access until then. You can reactivate at any time.

The banner includes a Reactivate button to undo the cancellation and resume billing at the end of the current period.

Past Due Banner

If a payment has failed, a past-due banner appears:

Your last payment failed. Please update your payment method to avoid service interruption.

The banner links to the customer portal where you can update your payment details.

Usage This Period

Below the plan card, usage bars show your consumption against plan limits:

Sources Connected

Shows how many data sources you have connected out of your plan's limit.

Queries This Month

The total number of skill executions this billing period. The bar shows current usage as a percentage of the limit, plus:

  • Daily average -- How many queries you run per day on average
  • Projection -- Estimated total by end of billing period based on current pace

Members

The number of team members in your workspace. There is no per-plan limit on members -- this is displayed for informational purposes.

Data Retention

Shows your plan's retention period for skill runs and action runs:

Below the usage section, a full comparison table shows all plan features side by side. A monthly/annual toggle at the top lets you see pricing for both billing periods.

Annual billing saves approximately 17%:

Upgrading

To upgrade to a higher plan:

  1. Go to Dashboard > Settings > Billing
  2. In the plan comparison table, click Upgrade on the plan you want
  3. You are redirected to the Polar checkout page
  4. Complete payment
  5. You are redirected back to alice with the new plan active immediately

Pro and Business features are available immediately after checkout. Your plan limits update in real time -- no need to refresh or wait.

Downgrading

To switch to a lower plan:

  1. Go to Dashboard > Settings > Billing
  2. Click Downgrade on the lower plan
  3. Confirm the downgrade

Downgrades take effect at the end of your current billing period. You retain full access to your current plan's features until then. When the downgrade activates:

  • Sources beyond the new plan's limit are not automatically disconnected -- you will need to choose which to keep
  • Skills beyond the limit become inactive -- they are preserved but cannot be run until you are within limits
  • Scheduled reports beyond the limit are paused -- reactivate them after removing excess reports
  • Data retention changes immediately at the next cleanup cycle

Cancelling Your Subscription

To cancel:

  1. Go to Dashboard > Settings > Billing
  2. Click Cancel subscription
  3. Confirm the cancellation

After cancelling:

  • Your plan remains active until the end of the current billing period
  • A pending cancellation banner shows the exact end date
  • You can reactivate at any time before the end date to continue billing
  • When the period ends, you are downgraded to the Free plan with its associated limits

Switching Billing Period

To switch between monthly and annual billing:

  1. Go to Dashboard > Settings > Billing
  2. Toggle between Monthly and Annual in the plan comparison
  3. Click Switch to annual (or monthly)

When switching to annual, you pay the annual amount immediately and receive a prorated credit for any remaining time on your monthly subscription. When switching to monthly, the change takes effect at the end of your current annual period.

Payment Management

Click Manage billing to open the Polar customer portal where you can:

  • Update your payment method (credit card)
  • View invoice history
  • Download invoices for expense reporting
  • Update billing email address
